For the first time in my life, I have a pressing need to communicate in English. Here in the US, what you say is what you are. You are nobody if you don’t say anything.

I guess speaking has many things in common with musical improvisation in the sense that they both involve communication, and in the sense that they both need continuous updating of motor control immediately following generation of ideas. Nobody knows from where in our brain words or notes come from (it is an outstanding question of current brain science), but one thing that is clear is that inspiration does not come out of the blue. You always have to get ready for it. You will never be able to play it ad-lib if you don’t have a practiced, already formed pattern of phrases, in other words, motor commands.

It might be a good idea to try to keep a blog in English. Suei-san wrote that you have to show someone what you express, if you want to be good. that is also something in common between speaking and playing instruments. Keeping a diary would be a good way to polish my vocabulary, also because there is no limit in time to think of how I express it, unlike when I talk. And according to what I have been doing in Hatena diary, I should be able do it regularly, as there has been something I want to write, at least once or twice a week.

でも読みづらくなるから誰も来てくれなくなるかなー。しかし、日本語だとなんでこんなに書きやすいんだろう。あと日本語読んでいて、わからない言葉なんてほとんどない、ということが逆に不思議だ。
